Selftreatment is the reason for the flu death toll in Mexico
Adelina Marini, May 1, 2009
Probably a lot of people ask themselves why there are people in Mexico and in the US that die from the novel virus, if the flu is not deadly? There are some explanations offered by the "New York Times" newspaper today. The first is that Mexicans go to the doctor when they have no other alternative and often is too late. Another reason is the tradition in Mexico people to treat themselves, to prescribe themselves medicines and even antibiotics and, also traditionally, to treat themselves through homeopathy. Last but not least, according to the newspaper, is the coincidence between the outbreak of the novel flu and Easter when most hospitals were with less personnel.
Bulgaria is also famous with the country with most "medically literate" people who prescribe themselves treatment. That is why you should have in mind that in this case, as in many others, this might prove dangerous.
