The Catholic Church in Bulgaria welcomed the Lisbon Treaty

The Lisbon Treaty contributes to the fundamental law of the EU a new parameter which is of great significance for the roles of the Churches in the Community, writes in a statement the Catholic Church in Bulgaria on the occasion of today's entering into force of the Lisbon Treaty. Article 17 of the Treaty focuses on the identity of the Church and its specific role in society. This article gives Churches and religious communities the chance to have a real dialogue with the European institutions, giving their contributions in the political and social searches of the Community, the statement says.

The Catholic Church in Bulgaria is a member of the Commission of the Bishops' Conferences of the European Community (COMECE), based in Brussels.
