Traditional weddings in Macedonia
Ladislav Tsvetkov, 19 July 2009
The Macedonian village of Galichnik becomes a centre of an annual event, showing ancient customs and traditions. On St. Peter's Day thousands of people, born in Galichnik and descendants of local clans gather to remember the way of life that had been respected long ago.
In the zenith of the village there were 30 weddings each year on St. Peter's Day. Since then Galichnik became famous with its emigrants because people started leaving the village in search of better life abroad. Anyway, this July, again the sounds of traditional musical instruments like drums and zouria could be heard again. So far 46 weddings took place in Galichnik.
